63RD INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS

St. Stanislaus School along with its Staff, students and parents celebrated the 63rd Independence Day with great fervor.

We hoisted our National flag at 8 a.m and sung our National Anthem. Fr. Juan the Manager of the School was the Chief Guest.

The cultural programme held in the hall only made us feel more proud of our country. We had a group song ‘Vijayi Vishwa Tiranga Pyara’ sung by the students of Std. VI.

A poem ‘My Flag’ recited by Master Wahib Mistry of Std.VIII D made us reflect deeply on the meaning of our flag.

Std. VIII students danced to the tune of Jai Ho. Sagar Eidnani the Asst. School Captain delivered a thought provoking speech. He made us question our patriotism and asked us; if we were really free even after 63 years of Independence?’

Vande Mataram was set to dance by the graceful movements of Std. X boys. The show came to an end with the Staff and Students coming together to the song ‘Mile Sur Mera Tumara.

This cultural programme concluded with a felicitation of the Std.X toppers of 2009 -2010 batch. These students expressed their views on time management and how to keep away from stress during the Board Exams.The NCC and Scout boys were awarded Certificates of Honour. The School Anthem was sung in full gusto at the conclusion.

The programme ended on a happy note with a lavish brunch.

Dear Parents,

SUB: IInd UNIT TEST and PROJECT WORK

Since the evaluation pattern is undergoing rapid changes, we avail guidelines from the Education Department. Subsequently, we will commence plans for the next evaluation.

Presently, we begin the Class Group projects in the First Term. Each student is given a topic and allotted a group. Presentation method must be discussed with the Teacher Guide.

Suggested methods for presentation are as follows:

- skits, plays, song, models, dialogues, interviews, charts, painting.

Tuesday, 28th September 2010 is the final date for submitting this project.

Each student must maintain his own Scrap Book / File. This Scrap book/ file, will also be evaluated for individual work.

The Group Project must display 10 hours of work; 4 hours with the group in school and 6 hours of individual work.

This project we hope will bring in a Social Transformation in our students.

St Stanislaus pays homage to famous alumni Leo Pinto

Students of the St Stanislaus High School Bandra observed a minute's silence when school opened on Wednesday morning as homage to a famous alumni,India's oldest surviving Olympian, Leo Pinto, who passed away at the age of 96 on Tuesday.Later a few schoolboys carried the school flag and created an arch of hockey sticks as the coffin was taken from St Francis D'Assisi Church to the St Peters seaside cemetery.

At the mass, Fr Jude Fernandes SJ, Principal of St Stanislaus, Pinto's Alma Mater, said the player with his Olympiad deeds, had vindicated the school's motto, `Natus Ad Majora' which meant 'Born for Greater Things'.

Inauguration of St.Peter’s K.G.

Though it was not cool, at summer time we prepared for our new school
After all the sweat and toil
Came 16th July, the long awaited special day
That eventually made its way ,
To one and all

Friday morning 16th July, around 10.30am seen a heavy downpour, however this did not cause any hindrance as our guest arrived on time inspite of the heavy rains. There was a spirit in the air, a feeling that was shared by all present – a feeling of joy, excitement ,enthusiasm and anticiaption. It was a day that marked a new beginning at St.Peters K.G.

The day commenced with the inauguration ceremony – the cutting of the ribbon that unlocked the keys for all to enter by Respected principal Fr. Jude and Fr.Juan. What a wonderful moment it was indeed , eagerly awaited by one and all. Smiles and joy filled the corridors as our main guest walked by the classrooms all creatively set up for the little children.

At St. Stanislaus, we believe in providing the child with a well-rounded learning experience. Hence, we have adopted XSEED a learning curriculum. Children learn by experience thereby, giving him a strong foundation for life.

In the XSEED method, children are encouraged to write in their own words instead of copying from a book or blackboard. The reason behind this is to help the children become independent thinkers and writers.

Doctor’s Day was celebrated on Wednesday, 30th June 2010 wherein Parent Doctors as well as doctors in the vicinity were felicitated for all the selfless work they do. The main focus of this Doctor’s Meet is to create an awareness of Public Health and Hygiene in the society and plan future medical programmes for our students.

Suzuki violin training for Stds. I & II

Stanislaus School has organized Suzuki violin training for Stds. I & II only with the help of the tutors from the NCPA (National Centre of Performing Arts). Those students wishing to enroll can do so.

The Suzuki method is a way of learning to play music. In the beginning, learning music by ear is emphasized over reading musical notation. The method also encourages, in addition to individual playing, frequent playing in groups (including playing in unison) and frequent public performance, so that playing is so far as possible natural and enjoyable.

Field trip for the 9th standard students

48 students of Standard 9 were taken on a 2 day all expenses paid educational tour of the Silicon Valley of the East- Bengaluru by Livewire Learning as an award for their exceptional performance in the Step Up! programme. The trip was aimed at showing the students how Information Technology has changed India's status in the world in the last 2 decades and how they could be the architects of India's future.

They visited the Hindustan Aeronautics Lab Museum and learnt about India's air defence and space programme, followed by a visit to the Supercomputer Lab at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science.

The next day they attended the SPARK programme at INFOSYS that ignited in their minds a spark to think big and achieve excellence. This was followed by a tour of the exceptionally beautiful and eco friendly INFOSYS campus.

Classes in Marathi-Hindi for parents

Dear Parent,

It is with great pleasure that our teachers have taken the initiative of conducting Marathi and Hindi classes for Parents interested in learning the languages. These classes will be conducted every Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. The book for reference will be “Simple sketches for Languages” by Varsha Wakde that has already been provided to your son along with his set of books. Parents are requested to avail themselves of this opportunity and register themselves in the Secondary School Office by 3rd July 2010 as we plan to begin on that day.

With reference to the query raised by parents regarding the Marathi and Hindi books during the Parent’s Interaction for Std 5 on 26th June 2010, the list of books is mentioned below:

Marathi:
1.    Marathi Text book – (to be carried daily to school)
2.    Printed Marathi notes – ( to be brought daily to school)
3.    Rapid Reader – “Chimukli Aesop Nithi” ( to be brought to school when teacher asks for it)
4.    Handwriting Practice book – “Adarsh Marathi Lekhan” ( also to be brought when teacher asks for it)
5.    Grammar Book (not recommended by school)
6.    “Simple Sketches for Languages” by Varsha Wakde ( recommended for parents as a help and a guide)
7.    Composition book for fair work in class (100 pgs double blue lines)
